Kakasoft USB Security

USB flash drives can be misplaced or stolen easily, due to their small size. If you wish to prevent anyone who finds your USB stick from going through your personal files, then you should protect your device. This is where Kakasoft USB Security comes in. The application is capable of locking USB flash drives or other external storage devices at a moment's notice. It hides all files on your device and it will keep them hidden until you insert your password.

Kakasoft USB Security is available in free and Pro editions. Although the free version has a few functionality limitations, it does not have a time limit, so you can use it for as long as you want. The application's setup file is 1.29 MB and you have to install it directly on a USB device, which takes only a few seconds. It is compatible with various Windows platforms, from Win 2000 up to Win 8.

The application's setup file will create a small executable on a given USB device. Running this executable will display a compact user interface, which is shaped like a USB flash drive. All you have to do is type and retype a password on the interface and click a button to protect your device. In a few seconds, all files on your USB drive, except for the application's executable, will be hidden.

Protected data won't show up in Windows Explorer or in other file managers, even if you set Windows to show hidden files. To reveal your files, you have to run Kakasoft USB Security's executable again and type your password. Alternatively, you can open your files in a virtual drive, which will stay open until you close the application.

Kakasoft USB Security provides a few customization options as well. An options menu can be accessed on the same interface, in which you can select a different icon for your drive, change the password and set the application to run automatically when you plug in your device. It is also possible to disable the device's autoplay feature.
